At House & Garden, we can't get enough of the colour green. Pick up any issue of the magazine and you will soon discover that green is ubiquitous: it's on walls and woodwork, upholstering chairs or dressing windows. When speaking to interior designers about why this is, the most common answer is that it is a useful vehicle for bringing the outside in. A green painted window creates a visual link with the garden beyond, and walls in the colour help to emulate the sense of calm often brought on by a long walk in nature.
One of the rooms which benefits most from the colour green, whether that's in the form of a lick of paint, a pretty wallpaper or an arrangement of tiles, is the bathroom. Though it is first and foremost a functional space, a considered use of colour can make it feel both useful and beautiful. Boz Gagovski1/13A bathroom in Joa Studholme's Somerset House is a combination of Sap Green to echo the view outside and Pink Cup, both archive colour Farrow & Ball colours, which are used to create a chequerboard design from the bath panel to the wooden floor. In her bedroom, the window has been painted a muted green to draw the outside in.
Boz Gagovski2/13The interior designer Lucy Mayers has wrought an impressive transformation on her tiny Kensington flat, taking it from boring ‘standard student rental fare’ to a space full of personality and packed with surprises. The narrow vanity in the bathroom is an old sewing table bought at Criterion Auctions as a bedside table, but Lucy adapted it into a vanity by adding a brass top and a marble bowl from Ebay. Deep green zellige tiles line the walls.

Daisy has combined Adelphi Paper Hangings' ‘Otis Federal Stripe’ with Neptune's ‘Sage’ paint on the woodwork. The mirror is from Soane, and the same company's ‘Scrolling Fern’ fabric makes a charming sink curtain. A small painting by Daisy hangs over a Portobello Market find on the far wall.
